Karma Beauty Lounge

Last week I indulged in some pre-Valentine’s Day pampering at Karma Beauty Lounge. The mid-week beauty pick me up featured a blow dry tutorial station, eyebrow bar with celebrity makeup artist Erwin Gomez, an oxygen booster skin bar, and a champagne nail treatment.  Since my hair is natural I skipped the blow out tutorial and opted for a brow wax. My eye brows are extremely fine so usually I can get by with threading them once every 3 months. I was due for a touch up but I was slightly nervous. During my session with Adrian Avila I asked him his thoughts on beauty and life in DC and this is what he said:

If DC were a color it would be beige and I’m here to change that

Adrian has such a bubbly personality and clearly he knows what he’s doing. Since it was my first time he offered a humble brag that he’s been featured in Allure Magazine‘s Best of the Best in Beauty for best brows in DC. With that in mind I felt reassured and knew I was in good hands.

I was extremely pleased with the finished look. After my brows I headed to the back of the spa for an oxygen skin boost.

How the Intraceuticals Rejuvenate treatment works:

Remember back in the day when airbrushed nail art was the thing to do? Imagine that airbrush machine on your face. The oxygen under light pressure helps deliver of age defying ingredients to the skin at the same time as cooling and calming the skin. The Unique Rejuvenate Serum contains lightweight Hyaluronic Acid and a powerful combination of vitamins and antioxidants. Don’t worry if you didn’t major in Chemistry. Hyaluronic Acid basically helps to instantly hydrate the skin resulting in increased firmness, reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and overall radiance. I can honestly say you can see results immediately! My esthetician completed one side of my face first to show me before completing my treatment. My skin appeared to be dewy yet it felt hydrated and clean. I’ll be going back so I highly recommend it!

Style Spy: Chanel Chain Boots

I’m such a fan of celebrity stylist June Ambrose so I pay extra attention to any and everything she wears. I had a stop and stare moment when she rocked a fly pair of Chanel glazed calfskin thigh high boots. Shortly after I noticed these Chanel chain boots popping up all over on Tumblr and Instgram. Dare I say these boots are the it item for Fall/Winter 2013. The heavy price tag far exceeds my shoe allowance but that doesn’t stop me from admiring how others have styled the boots. I love the grunge feel of the chunky heeled boots. The open front and layered chains still make them very feminine.

Blood, Sweat, and Heels

Blood, Sweat, and Heels on Bravo TV

Confession: Reality TV is my guilty pleasure!

Starting January 5th, Bravo TV is giving me yet another show to look forward to! Today they announced a new show Blood, Sweat and Heels that follows a group of up-and-coming movers and shakers in New York’s elite circles of real estate, fashion, and media. No shade towards the other cast mates but the only reason I’m even excited about this is because of blogger, turned author Demetria Lucas. I’ve blogged about her so many times! It’s exciting to witness her career blossom. From reading her blog and articles in Essence, to meeting her in person (twice),  finishing her book in two days, and now a reality show! To see her in action on TV will be a full circle moment. Not to mention CBW will finally be revealed! I know her nosey readers like me faithful readers are happy. Check out the previews.

The blogger turned author received public backlash after her first book released and from afar I felt extremely bad for her. To me it solidified the fact that people want to see you do well, just not better than them. The internet trolls have found something else to complain about! It hasn’t even been 24 hours since the show announcement and she’s already getting negative feedback on her site and around the web.  She has a second book coming out soon titled Don’t Waste Your Pretty so I don’t blame her for taking a shot at reality TV. I don’t anticipate the show being drama free…it’s called entertainment. From what I’ve seen she has a strong sense of self so I believe this show is just part of a well thought out marketing plan. I’ll be looking forward to the show. The new reality star also shared details about her promo look on her recently launched fashion Instagram page Pretty By Belle.

I’ll also be watching to see some of her fashion moments as well. She has sensible style,  she always wears dresses, and has a thing for Louis Vuitton handbags. And did I mention her pink engagement ring!!! See why I like her?!

Will you be watching the show or are you tired of reality TV?

Her hair is absolutely stunning in person so I had to snap a pic.  For anyone wondering about her rizos (curls) you can rejoice because she recently launched her blog- Rock Yo Rizos! On her site you’ll learn how she maintains her gorgeous curly hair using her favorite hair products. Along with her love for curly hair Mel shares bits of her life through personal photography and delicious recipes. It’s definitely worth adding to your blog roll. Thank me later.

Cocktails with Claire DC

If you don’t read the Fashion Bomb Daily I question your interest in fashion. I’ve been a fan of the site for years. It’s one of my go-to sites for celebrity fashion looks and outfit inspirations. Last Friday the editor-in-chief, Claire hosted Cocktails with Claire here in DC. I wasn’t sure what to expect so I debated on what to wear. I’ve learned that when in doubt you can never go wrong with a little black dress.

When I arrived at 18th Street Lounge the room was buzzing with chatter and a line was starting to form at the door. I expected the usual DC fashion crowd but this time was different.  It was extremely refreshing to see some new faces. I thought to myself: where have all these fly girls been hiding? The room was filled with stylish guests. I was even recognized by Ashley- a reader of this site who shares my love for BeyonceBy 8 o’clock the room was packed! Between passed hors d’oeuvres and cocktails I managed to get some face time with Claire. She was really nice and visibly humbled by all of the support.

For the record we were shaded several times while chatting it up with Claire. Not by her but from some of the rude guests who were vying for her attention to snap a pic.  I’m assuming these girls were a little star struck because they were pressed! Claire kept cool about it by smiling and taking a pic but I was slightly irritated. We continued our brief convo about neon v magazine, her makeup by Michelle which was flawless, and upcoming cocktails with Claire dates. (LA and Chicago she may be coming to your area soon) We even recored this random video. LOL! Shortly after our conversation Claire addressed the crowd and thanked her readers for all of their support.

Photo op with Amber!

Even though it was hot and over crowded, any opportunity to meet new people will go down as a great event in my book. Claire mentioned that DC had more RSVPs than Atlanta and New York! That speaks volumes and debunks the myth that DC and fashion don’t mix. My greatest hope is that other fashion brands and companies take note that DC is a city of great fashion potential! We want more fashion events like this so bring it! Thank you Claire for making a stop in the District!
