I’m on a mission to only eat at places that make me take pictures of my food. I don’t consider myself an “official” food blogger or foodie but I totally should be. All I do is eat! I love trying new restaurants and the overall “going out to eat experience”. Whenever you see a new food or drink post here, or me raving about something on Instagram just know that the food is good. That way we can skip the obvious. Last weekend I tried Sweet Fire Donna’s Barbecue & Hops for the very first time. This relaxed joint offers traditional smoked barbecue with familiar sides, plus a full bar.
I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich. All of the meat is served dry without any sauce. They leave that choice up to you. The Honey Chipotle BBQ was my favorite. Sweet and spicy. (Just like me)
All of the side dishes were delicious. I tried the Cool Cucumber Salad, Bourbon Pepper Jack Creamed Corn, Sweet BBQ Baked Beans and Mammy’s Collard Greens (major side eye to this name). As if this wasn’t enough food, I had the nerve to order a side of corn bread too. I was beyond stuffed! Per usual I didn’t eat all of my food so I decided to get a to-go box. If you know me in real life you’d know I rarely if ever eat left overs (weird, I know). I was half way home and realized I didn’t get any sauces to-go (face palm). In my opinion the sauce is what made the chicken sandwich so tasty.
As a first timer I was impressed. I’d say it ranks as one of the best BBQ spots I’ve experienced in the DMV area. If you like affordable, casual dinning BBQ then give Sweet Fire Donna’s a shot. Pop into this place for happy hour everyday from 4-7PM. They have special prices on select food and drinks at the bar. If you love tacos and eat pork you’ll be glad to hear every night is taco night. Every night from 10PM- midnight they have a $2 pulled pork taco special. If you go don’t forget to tell them I sent you!
