Nail polish connoisseurs and beauty junkies it is my pleasure to introduce you to Mischo Beauty Luxury Nail Lacquer! Chemist and cosmetologist Kitiya King conceptualized Mischo Beauty in the midst of a fruitless, frustrating search for stunning, cruelty free, non-toxic polishes safe for pregnant women. The typical nail polish is created from a brew of Formaldehyde, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Toluene, Formaldehyde Resin, and Camphor. Mischo Beauty is “5-free” meaning it doesn’t contain any of those toxins or harmful ingredients. The Fashion Week Collection is made up of 7 shades, plus a top coat and base coat.
The lovely folks over at Danika Daily PR were so gracious to send me not one but two bottles from the collection! I had to try Invite Only first.
The brand promises a perfect shine plus the chip resistant and fast drying properties sold in other brands. I cannot confidently attest to how well it lasts but but after I polished my nails I didn’t feel the need to add a shiny top coat.
Metallic nail polishes are so in this year so Invite Only is the perfect amount of sparkle to add to your nails for the upcoming holiday season.
I had a chance to speak with Mischo Beauty owner and Chemist Kitiya King to learn more about the brand. Read our interview to learn 7 facts about Mischo Beauty!
Tell me more about the inspiration behind the New York Fashion week collection. Obviously you were inspired by NYFW but can you share details about the names/colors of the polishes and what they mean to you?
I love Fashion Week! The colors were inspired by Fall trends on the runways of New York, Milan and Paris. I wanted to have fun with the names of the shades. Backstage Beauty honors the people who work backstage making the show happen, NYFW is for the trendsetters, and Front Row is for the lady who are always front and center. All of the names are really fun!
Many women are choosing to pursue their passions while working in corporate America. How did you manage working full-time, being a wife, mother, and starting a new company?
Because I have so many moving parts going on in my life right now, I must admit that starting a new company has been very challenging! Prioritizing is vital, and keeping a current schedule on my calendar, as well as a daily to-do list is a must for me.
What are some of your go-to tools for time management?
My favorite go-to tools at the moment are Google Calendar and Evernote.
Best piece of advice for young female entrepreneurs?
First make a commitment! Then take action and stay focused, and hang on tight for the roller coaster ride to come. It’s important to keep pushing through during the good and tough times.
I love this quote by Sheryl Sandberg:
“Speak Up. Believe In Yourself. Take Risks.”
This is my life at the moment!
Starting a business can be extremely tough. What or who was your source of inspiration? What kept you going when you wanted to quit?
I’ve always admired Marcia Kilgore, the founder of Bliss Spa. She’s an esthetician, entrepreneur and well-respected beauty authority who began giving facials in her New York City apartment. This led to her opening her first business, and eventually founding Bliss Spa, and the Bliss and Remede beauty product lines. The luxury goods conglomerate Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton (LVMH) acquired 70% of the company in 1999, resulting in a $30 million deal. And, in 2004, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. acquired the company, which is why we now see Bliss Spas in W Hotels. Fearless entrepreneurs, such as Marcia, keep me inspired and pushing to achieve my dreams!
Are there any Mischo Beauty events coming up for those who want to learn more about the brand and test the polishes out?
We are hosting a launch party on Wednesday, November 13th at Toka Salon in Georgetown. The event will run from 6-8pm, and we will be offering complimentary Mischo manicures and an updo bar. The event will be designed by Petite Social, cupcakes by KedaKakes and sparkling wine by Voga. Come get pampered!
I’ve followed the Mischo Beauty blog for years so it’s amazing to see the brand evolve. What’s the ultimate goal for MB?
