7th Street: Style Hunt in DC

Anytime I receive an email prefaced with “Pharrell can’t be pleased” and a link to watch a video from the fashion director at neon v magazine I know I’m in for a treat. Little did I know what I was about to see. Don’t believe me just watch!

Usually I subscribe to the idea of promoting what you love instead of bashing what you hate but I feel like this time it is very necessary that I inject my honest opinion. Especially in the name of DC fashion. One of the main reasons I created this blog was to showcase that DC actually has style! The DMV is not the “Hollywood for ugly people” as some have called it. The fly, stylish, and artistic people get over shadowed by government and politics. I applaud the efforts of those who filmed this video, and appreciate them for including DC but this aint it! DC has so much more to offer and this feature is not an accurate visual of DC style! This short fashion segment may be the one and only instance that outsiders are exposed to a video that attempts to depict DC fashion and style. It completely undermines all the hard work that myself and so many other DC fashion bloggers and media outlets put into changing the perspective of fashion here in the District. Furthermore, whose idea was it to shoot in Chinatown (ie. tourist attraction)?  This video solidified that fact that I need to get back to snapping DC street style.

For my DC folks what do you think. Does this video accurately portray DC street style?

Well, there were some positives in that video. But, yeah, Chinatown wasn’t the best choice to represent ALL of DC. They def could have hit up different neighborhoods/sections of DC and complied it together for a video.

Yeah, Pharrell definitely couldn’t have been pleased.

This is not the DC I know. Where are the young and fabulous professionals?! And what DC interview did this girl go on in a princess dress?! Oh… and those square French tips with the Louis Vuitton charm almost took me to see Jesus.

Seems like you’re just bitter… I used to live in DC for almost 20 years sweetie (working successfully in fashion pr in Manhattan now) and it was more the hub of a walking 2002 Macy’s campaign then anything
