Who doesn’t want to feel special about their lady bits? Whether it’s tattooing down there or getting a Brazilian wax, women are always looking for ways to get their private parts glammed up. A not so new trend is giving Swarovski crystals a new place to shine! Still don’t know what I’m talking about…Well allow me to introduce you to vajazzling!
Vajazzling: The act of applying glitter and jewels to a woman’s bikini area for aesthetic purposes.
Vajazzling has been around for a few years now and now everyone from the Kardashians to the girl next door are trying it out. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of chatting it up with Meka Mathis-salon owner of the only place to get blinged out down there in DC- Skin Beauty Lounge. Skin Beauty Lounge is an upscale spa offering spa body treatments, skin care and waxing services. The Eastern Market Spa is a very popular among DC residents for their famous Brazilian wax. In addition to waxing services Skin Beauty Lounge is the only spa in DC that offers vajazzling. Since I’m a vajazzling virgin and visual creature I was interested in seeing what exactly is going down there. Meka reassured me there are a variety of designs to choose from. We chatted more about her journey into the beauty industry. She offered great words of wisdom. “Follow your passion and live your life. Do not give up and have a plan.” She really loves her space and feels extremely blessed to still be in business 7 years later. She attributes some of her success to word of mouth marketing and repeat clients. With buying power websites like Living Social and Groupon, women have so many salon options to choose from and she’s just glad she’s still standing.I could sense her passion the more we talked. She explained the most rewarding part of her job is being her own boss. She loves her staff and she is proud that her salon offers her the opportunity to allow other young ladies pursue their passion.
Of course we had to talk skin care. She dished on her top skin care tips. She recommends Dermalogica cleanser and exfoliant. She swears by their products and I’m kicking myself for not taking a pic because her skin is flawless! She also uses Body Shop Tea Tree facial mask once a week. It was such an honor to speak with a thriving business owner that has been featured in Essence, InStyle, and Lucky Magazine. The most amazing part of the entire interview was to learn that she is completely DEBT FREE! In the future she hopes to expand to a second location possibly near Dupont Circle.
