The Dollhouse Farewell Brunch

Saturday I went to Founding Farmers with the “Dollhouse” for a farewell brunch for my girl Court who is leaving the District and moving to Atlanta (tear). People rave about Founding Farmers brunch all the time so I was excited to see what they had to offer. I was disappointed the moment I realized they didn’t offer bottomless mimosa brunch?! Who’s idea was this? LOL. Court proceeded to ordering a diet Coke that came in the cutest bottle which also meant no free refills.

Two other “dolls” opted for a real drink…Two Mint Juleps on deck! CHEERS!

Two “dolls” ordered the New Orleans Style Stuffed French Toast soaked in Brandy Creme Anglaise, Flash Fried and Filled with Vanilla Pastry Cream. I had to try a piece. It was great!

3 of my “dolls” ordered the Meyer’s Ranch Steak and Eggs Served with Three Eggs, Shredded Leek Hash Browns and a Thick Slice of Tomato. They said it was AMAZING!

“Doll” Ashley ordered fried Chicken, Eggs and Waffles. Crispy-Fried Free-Range Chicken Tenders with Gravy, Eggs, and a Golden Waffle with Whipped Farm Butter.

I opted for the Founding Farmers Breakfast- Eggs served with House-Made Breakfast Sausage Shredded Leek Hash Browns and grits.

The house made sausage was extremely bland. Two of us ordered it and both of us sent it back. I asked for ketchup for my hash browns and the first thought was: Why does this ketchup taste like vinegar?! YUCK! Call me #basic but I prefer good ole’ Heinz. The grits were a waste of money! They were watered down with zero flavor until I added several packets of sugar (don’t ask its a midwest thang) and pepper. I only had a few spoonfuls before asking the waiter to take mine away.

Overall Founding Farmers Brunch:

Price: $$

Service: Average

Presentation: Excellent

Best brunch item: New Orleans Style French Toast

Would I go back: Yes, but only for dinner to try other menu items. There are too many other DC restaurants that offer better brunch selections and bottomless mimosa brunch for less.

    Can I say I love this review!
    It describes Founding Farmers to a “T”

    I used to work a couple of blocks from there so I would consider myself a Founding Farmers Pro! So brunch is very blahh! I told my bf to have his lunch meeting there and he said “Babe, why didn’t you tell me to stop at McDonald’s and get Ketchup?” lol

    What they prepare well: cocktails, fresh squeezed anything, homemade red velvet and carrot cake, fried green tomatoes, fried chicken & waffles good, deviled eggs, shrimp roll, cedar plank salmon (but if you can’t cook salmon..smh) and their homemade pastas are pretty good)
    For Brunch, I would much rather Eggspectations, grits are good, but no bottomless mimosa 🙁

      So it wasn’t just me?! I was thinking maybe they just had a bad day. Like I mentioned I’ll have to go back for dinner. Thanks for your recommendations…including Eggspectations. Might have to try that this weekend 😉
